It‘s impossible to establish with a exact date the origin, probably Nordic, of this artistic and entirely hand made engraving. Its first sign dates back to 1624, year found engraved on some watchcases adorned with Guillochè.
That‘s why Guilloch‘s birth is placed in XVIIth century, even if it‘s certainly previous. Deeply applied and indispensable in goldsmithery at that time, it had his greatest expression in the genius of Fabergè, the famous Czar‘s goldsmith. Guilloché passed through the centuries until nowadays, handed down from father to son as a rare and precious art, not without troubles, considering that the machineries used are still hand operated like three centuries ago. That‘s why the true Guilloché engravers are very few by now in the world. They continue thanks to the great hand dexterity required to overcome the difficulty of the applied technique, thanks to the love for a tradition that is worth a future and to the desire to express their personal style, using as principal instrument: „the skilful hand of the craftsman“.
